Those who played golf in Bermuda a century ago likely hung their plus fours* at Belmont Manor. Back in nineteen-ought-seven, the Belmont Manor and Golf Club opened its doors. Belmont provided a balmy getaway, particularly to winter-beleaguered US East Coasters. The Island paradise offered the chance to get a newly fashionable suntan while strolling the course and enjoying Bermuda’s charm and beauty. A very manageable voyage was all that separated travellers from the Island. In fact, this remains true today, although we now recommend wearing sunscreen while you’re here. It seems the golf part of the Belmont Manor and Golf Club was a bit premature, as it wasn’t until 1915 that golf was actually played at Belmont. Over the years, many famous visitors have stayed at Belmont and played the course…from Hollywood household names to top-ranking politicians. This proud history is part of Belmont’s allure. When the property was purchased in 2001, the new owners paid homage to the Belmont’s fine reputation as a hotel and golf course by retaining the name, albeit with an addition that recognises the dramatic, deeply contoured landscape. Belmont Hills Golf Club opened for play on June 14, 2003. *Plus fours are no longer compulsory. See policies for details. |
